On Me

About David Rand

I spent years fighting the government on taxes, regulations, and civil liberties. Stopping bad laws that made it harder for people to build a life and passing good ones that freed people to pursue their happiness in peace.

Then I looked up and realized the biggest fight hiding in plain sight was housing.

Millions of Americans want to own a home or afford to rent while saving for their down payment or pursuing another ambition. They want to put down roots and live near their parents, or move for that new gig they’ve been waiting their whole life to take. And they can’t, and these are hardworking people! Because the system is blocking them. Zoning laws written by people who can’t see the suffering they cause. Permit bureaucracies that answer to no one. Local gatekeepers who’ve turned the American Dream into a nostalgic joke.

I’ve spent a decade in the arena. Professional activism, elections, direct and grassroots lobbying, media, and consulting. In Montana, I was fortunate to be involved in the Montana Miracle, a wave of free-market housing reforms that became a national model for what’s possible when property rights come first.

Build the Dream is the next fight. A national campaign to restore property rights, unblock the path to a place of your own, and make the American Dream buildable again.
