We done need to build, we need to clean.

The constant call to “build” is the first problem.

The refusal to keep clean and maintain what we have is the real problem.

The buried premise to my call to build is an if-then statement. IF you want affordable housing for young people to get their start, THEN you must build. IF you want to build, THEN you must remove the government-imposed barriers that prevent affordable housing from being created for both renting and buying. Both in the form (small lots and multi-family bans) and in the supply, we systematically underbuild and force more expensive building with government policy.
